Q: Hey there everyone... We're having a workshop here in Egypt at the university about Wikipedia, i wanted to ask you what are your suggestions to convince people to edit in wikipedia?? I mean what are the benefits for the editors for example?? Please tell me your suggestion to encourage people to share their knowledge and edit articles. Thanks alot
A: While it is true, and important, that contributing to Wikipedia contributes to the availability of human knowledge, the real reason is that contributing to Wikipedia is fun, emotionally satisfying, and you learn a lot. It is also an opportunity to learn how to collaborate with other people, especially people with different perspectives. The English Wikipedia is highly developed but the Arabic Wikipedia could use a lot of additional work. Also, many articles in the English Wikipedia reflect only American and European perspectives; the added perspective of Egyptian University students can substantially improve many articles.
